From Ancient to Modern Times

Why should we care about a temporary temple that existed during the Old Testament?

3400 years ago the Tabernacle was a way to define a nation's obedience to God, that kept them unified and brought organization to their daily life. It was the imagery of Christ who would "tabernacle" with us. This replica today helps us in a wonderful way to learn about a divine plan for humanity.

History Unveiled

The Tabernacle, meaning "residence" or "dwelling place", was the portable earthly dwelling place of the God of Israel used by the Israelites from the Exodus until the conquest of Canaan. Moses was instructed at Mount Sinai to construct and transport the Tabernacle with the Israelites on their journey through the wilderness and their subsequent conquest of the Promised Land.

Historic Facts

Its equipment, and the priestly vestments were made of a great variety of materials. These comprised of gold, silver, bronze and acacia wood, ordinary linen and fine twisted linen; goats' hair, tanned rams' skins, and goatskins; oil, spices and precious stones. The value of the materials was in direct proportion to the degree of sanctity of the Tabernacle component or furniture for which it was used. In this way, the conception of graduated holiness was preserved in every aspect of the shrine.
